What is the Mistletoe Festival? Tenbury Wells - England's Mistletoe Town - holds its annual Mistletoe Festival in late November and early December.
Main events take place on the first Saturday in December (aka National Mistletoe Day) though there is a longer mistletoe season of events around this date. These events include the town's traditional wholesale Mistletoe Auctions.
Background
Tenbury's Mistletoe Festival began in 2004, when the traditional Mistletoe Auctions, held in the town for over 100 years, seemed threatened with closure. Local people were determined Tenbury's Mistletoe legacy would continue, and so the Festival was born.
From small beginnings in 2004 much bigger Festivals ran in 2005 and 2006. One fixture, established in 2005, is National Mistletoe Day, endorsed by Parliament in 2005 and set to take place on 1st December (or the nearest Saturday) each year.
The traditional mistletoe (and holly) sales at the old livestock market have now ceased - but they continue at an out-of-town venue each year.
